Welcome to the self-study course on Ramayana - An Epic Exploration. This course is designed to provide you with a deep understanding of the Ramayana, which is considered the first epic (adi kavya) in the history of mankind. Authored by the great devotee-poet Srimad Valmiki, the Ramayana is devoted entirely to the pastimes of the Supreme Lord, Sri Rama, the hero of the sun (Surya) dynasty. Additionally, it beautifully expounds on concepts of dharma, artha, kama, moksa, and the duties of various roles within society.

The Ramayana is a timeless epic that not only narrates the divine pastimes of Sri Rama and Srimati Sita but also imparts profound wisdom about life, duty, and morality. This self-study course delves into the seven sections (kandas) of the Ramayana, exploring the intricacies of each part.

Throughout this self-study course, you will explore the following kandas of the Ramayana:

Bala Kanda: Childhood pastimes of Rama and Laxmana.

Ayodhya Kanda: Exile of Rama, Sita, and Laxmana into the forest.

Aranya Kanda: Pastimes of Sita, Rama, and Laxmana in the forest and the abduction of Sita by Ravana.

Kishkindha Kanda: Rama's search for Sita, Hanumana's meeting with Rama and Laxmana, the friendship between Rama and Sugriva, and the dispatching of monkey soldiers in search of Sita.

Sundara Kanda: Hanumana's journey to Lanka in search of Sita, his discovery of her in Ashoka Vatika, and the burning of Lanka.

Yuddha Kanda: Rama and Laxmana, along with the army of monkeys, attacking Ravana, the slaying of Ravana, and the reunion with Sita.

Uttara Kanda: Background stories of different characters in the Ramayana and Rama's performance of the Ashvamedha sacrifice.
