Course Overview

Bhadra Purnima Special: Srimad Bhagavatam Reading Anusthan

Why Should I Read Srimad Bhagavatam Daily?

Srila Prabhupada emphasized in his purport of Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 1, Chapter 7, Text 7:

The conclusion is that simply by hearing the Vedic literature Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, one can have direct connection with the Supreme Personality of Godhead Śrī Kṛṣṇa, and thereby one can attain the highest perfection of life by transcending worldly miseries, illusion, and fearfulness. These are practical tests for one who has actually given a submissive hearing to the readings of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

The Srimad Bhagavatam is considered the literary incarnation of Lord Krishna.

idaṁ bhāgavataṁ nāma

purāṇaṁ brahma-sammitam

uttama-śloka-caritaṁ

cakāra bhagavān ṛṣiḥ

niḥśreyasāya lokasya

dhanyaṁ svasty-ayanaṁ mahat

This Srimad Bhagavatam is the literary incarnation of God, compiled by Srila Vyasadeva, an incarnation of God Himself. It is intended for the ultimate welfare of all people, and it is all-successful, all-blissful, and all-perfect. (SB 1.3.40)

kṛṣṇe sva-dhāmopagate

dharma-jṣānādibhiḥ saha

kalau naṣṭa-dṛśām eṣa

purāṇārko ’dhunoditaḥ

This Bhagavata Purana shines as brilliantly as the sun, emerging just after Lord Krishna’s departure to His own abode, taking with Him religion, knowledge, etc. Those who have lost their vision in the dense darkness of ignorance in the age of Kali will find light in this Purana. (SB 1.3.43)
