Code of conduct at ISKCON Bhāgavata Mahāvidyālaya

IBMV is an institution dedicated to propagate the teachings of Śrīla Prabhupada, founder ācārya of ISKCON, along with the teachings of predecessor ācāryas of Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava sampradāya. The students are expected to live with a spirit of cooperation irrespective of the temples they come from, keeping Śrīla Prabhupada’s mood and mission in the center.

  • The students are expected to maintain the discipline, the culture of proper respect and conduct in the institute. Any kind of gross misbehavior towards the teachers, staff or other students will be informed to the recommending authority of the students and may lead even up to cancellation of the course registration based on its severity.
  • All the students are required to follow the institute’s complete schedule of morning program and academic classes. Whimsically taking off from the classes for some independent programs, even like dhāma visits, parikrama etc will be considered a serious breach of code and conduct at IBMV.
  • All the students are expected to responsibly render the services, regular and festival ones, allotted to them. The emergencies are obviously considered.
  • IBMV reserves all the rights regarding academic policies of the courses including all the assessments. The students are expected to conform with all these policies.
  • All the subjects are compulsory with their assessments. The students should not demand to opt out from any subject or assessments.
  • Scheduling of the teachers, provision of the course materials and notes is completely at the discretion of the institute i.e. IBMV.
  • The medium of all the classes is English and the students are required to complete all assessments, too, in English.
  • Any issues with the teacher in terms of difficulty in understanding his accent or any other clarifications with the presentation style need to be discussed with academic heads and not amongst the students themselves.
  • The students are required to be punctual for the course classes, exams and also daily morning program.
  • IBMV encourages a serious academic culture with noncompromising academic integrity. The closed book exam days and other assessment timelines need to be followed very strictly. No student should take off from the exam or assessment timelines whimsically, or quoting reasons such as lack of preparation. Serious illnesses or emergencies will be considered.
  • If the student misses any exam or assessment timeline due to sickness or some unavoidable emergency, the student needs to conform with rescheduled date and timelines without fail.
  • Cheating in exams or any malpractices in any form of assessments will be dealt severely, leading even up to expelling from the course.  ISKCON Board of Examinations’ (IBoEX) standards regarding cheating and penalties will be followed at IBMV.
  • A consistently poor performance by the student (consecutively failing in three closed book exams) will be discussed by the academic heads and appropriate action will be taken.
