Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gaurangaour
Caitanya-caritāmṛta is the postgraduate study of spiritual knowledge. Ideally, one begins with the Bhagavad-gītā and advances through Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam to the Caitanya-caritāmṛta. Although all these great scriptures are on the same absolute level, for the sake of comparative study the Caitanya-caritāmṛta is considered to be on the highest platform. Every verse in it is perfectly composed.
The word caitanya means “living force,” carita means “character,” and amṛta means “immortal.” As living entities, we can move, but a table cannot because it does not possess living force. Movement and activity may be considered signs or symptoms of the living force. Indeed, it may be said that there can be no activity without the living force. Although the living force is present in the material condition, this condition is not amṛta, immortal. The words Caitanya-caritāmṛta, then, may be translated as “the character of the living force in immortality.”
How are we proceeding with the study of Caitanya-caritāmṛta?
The 62 chapters of Sri Caitanya Caritamrita are divided into 214 sections. A section consists of translations of verses from a chapter in a paragraph form. It takes around 15-20 minutes to read one section. Each section is like a subchapter in itself.
Reading of Purports
In the process of reading the Sri Caitanya Caritamrita with the help of the translations, we encourage devotees to also read purports of Srila Prabhupada.
The Self study course includes reading of one section translations and one/few verses with its purport every day. You can increase reading of sections per day and verse per day as per availability of your time.
Which verses can be possibly read along with the section is been provided along with the index in the below-attached file.
What are the Benefits?
By adopting this technique, it will help you to get a complete overview of each section every day and an overview of entire Caitanya-caritāmṛta in a shorter span. This will naturally help one in its preaching activities and/or give seminars on Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and Caitanya-caritāmṛta. With this technique of reading translations, it will help you to know different pastimes of Lord and his devotees present in different sections of Caitanya-caritāmṛta. And since we are studying the minimum of one verse per day with the purport it will help you to understand the purports nicely.
